That may be a character from Saturday Night Live, but the truth is, you've probably looked in the mirror at some point and said it.
Belief in yourself is important - it can make or break the amount of success you achieve (or don't achieve) in life. But understanding what a "success mindset" is, becomes one of the most important things you need to learn before you start "manifesting" or repeating affirmations to yourself. And if you have a business, that understanding lies at the root of your solid foundation.
There is a distinct difference between those that move forward in their business and those that don’t. This isn’t about your “TO DO” list. We’re talking high business growth – clients, money, movement.
This is the story of the passionate, purpose-driven, heart-centered high achiever. You’re anxious to create success – money, visibility, freedom – they are all amongst your wish list.
And you start out very gung ho. In fact, you’re anxious, excited and motivated. You have a big dream.
But then something happens. While passionately pursuing your dreams, you eventually hit a wall. You’re so excited to share your message, and nobody seems to care. You put it out there and fail to get clients. You become lost in your own thoughts of insecurity and become scared to sell, so you don’t get clients. And the downward spiral continues.
On top of that is Facebook and the constant posts of happy people seemingly having more success than you. And suddenly your million dollar dream has fallen down a 200 foot rabbit hole.
THE SECRET TO BUSINESS GROWTH
You lose your focus and you turn online more. “Where are my clients?” You get sucked in by Facebook, and suddenly, what was once your purposeful mission is now your busy eye being deluged by social media.
It isn’t until you “wake up” and find your once confident mission to do good in the world, your business you painstakingly built, your dream of your success, crumbles into distraction by your feet.
You then realize you’ve lost your vision, your goal of success, and are caught up in your own story of failure.
THE GROWTH MINDSET
Success means many things to many people, but if you are reading this, chances are you have a greater vision than just money. Yes, money is super important, but the reality is, what happens in your bank account is the result of what happens between your ears.
It’s a sad truth that passion and purpose do not a successful business make. While it’s the beginning of a solid foundation, it’s still missing a missing piece that will keep you striving towards your growth. That missing piece is called VISION.
You see, purpose is essential to creating a solid message that supports a solid business foundation. Purpose is having a mission outside of yourself for the purpose of serving others. It gives your life meaning and enables you to use your life to help others in your business. Passion is what makes you excited about what you are doing. It makes you want to push forward even when times are tough.
But VISION – the thing most people miss – is being able to see far enough into the future that you are able to make strategic and calculated decisions NOW. VISION is what the richest people in the world have and what produces financial, emotional, and personal success. Achievement with passion, purpose, and vision are the keys to a high growth mindset.
As Darren Hardy, the CEO of Success Magazine and author of The Compound Effect says, the difference between a rich person and one that is not, is that a wealthy person understands compounding interest.
Compounding interest is when the interest that builds up from a certain dollar amount consistently builds upon itself – it includes the initial principal and also on the accumulated interest of previous periods of a deposit or loan.
So when I wealthy person considers buying a coffee, they understand that while $5 is not a lot – $5 invested today at an 8% interest rate for 30 years would be worth about $50.
So their question is not: ‘Should I buy this coffee? It’s only $5.’
Instead it is: ‘Is this $5 coffee worth $50 to me, 30 years from now?’
YOUR GREATEST DECISION
So in consideration of PURPOSE, PASSION, and VISION, where should you invest your time and energy TODAY, so that you can produce your greatest success TOMORROW?
This, I believe, is where most well-meaning but unsuccessful people fall down.
With the deluge of social media, your family, your kids, and most of all, your uncontrollable thoughts in your head – you GET DISTRACTED. Distracted from your goals, lost without a vision, and unconscious of productive priorities.
It’s a nonstop loop that keeps you stuck in mediocrity – or lower.
In his book “Procrastinate on Purpose” Best selling author Rory Vaden talks about time management being a lie. You can’t manage time – we all have the same 86,400 seconds in a day – the same time as President Obama, Beyonce, and Oprah.
So how do they get so much done and seem so effective? Aside from talent and luck, the answer is VISION. They all had a vision greater than that which they were living. They saw outside and above their current circumstance and made decisions that moved them towards that vision. They didn’t spend time on Facebook. They didn’t sit around lost in their own thoughts. And they made choices that forced them to face their greatest fears, knowing they could fail, but also knowing they could pick themselves up and keep going to live their purpose.
THE CONFIDENCE WITHIN
You see, creating success is about purpose, passion, and VISION – it’s a 3 way strategy. When you are so passionate about the thing you do – not for the money – but for a higher purpose – the things that align with your values; when you have a vision, you understand that your priorities are not your current circumstances but things that move you closer to a greater goal – then you have the foundation to develop SELF TRUST so that you face the fear of turning away the temptations now, for the purpose of achieving your greatest vision.
The secret strategy to success and ensuring a high growth mindset is focusing on your passion, purpose, and vision – which will enable to you to earn your own SELF TRUST. This is the trust in yourself to move past fear.
The reality is, a person with passion, purpose, and a vision is a person who has confidence – confidence that is achieved in pursuit of a higher purpose. They understand their “I can’t make money” story is just a story. It’s resisting FOMO – the Fear of Missing Out – on social media so that you can work on your own priorities. And it’s about knowing that “I can’t” is an excuse you tell yourself, not a statement of truth.
When you let go of the belief you have of what you think is predetermined, and you consciously take charge and take actions towards the fear you are so afraid to face, then you can take the steps necessary to live a life you never knew possible.
Trust – earning it from others – starts with earning it from yourself. When you decide to trust yourself, suddenly FEAR of failure, fear of missing out, fear of doing the hard things to produce success, can turn into clarity, productivity, and success.
