"Build your email list and they will come" is NOT a solid strategy :o
While the internet has changed business tremendously, at the foundation of any successful business are TWO PEOPLE - one has a wallet that they need to pull out to pay you, and one delivers value for that money.
Due to the proliferation of new business owners teaching other new business owners, over time, the basic rules of business have been stretched, altered, and broken, and because of that, thousands of new business owners are drowning in ineffective "busyness", instead of profit generating BUSINESS practices.
This is basic foundational business but you may not have heard it yet...(brace yourself)... MARKETING and SELLING are 2 different things, and "doing social media" is NOT going to get you clients. :o
So let's get back to BUSINESS. First, let's define the core terms of any successful business model.
MARKETING - is the act of doing things to bring awareness to your business.Things like Facebook, Instagram, blogging - those are promotional activities to bring awareness of your business to your ideal clients.
STRATEGY - is the process of understanding how your marketing activities can communicate the value of your product or service, and how those activities can POSITION you for the value and integrity that you are.
POSITIONING - The place you occupy in the minds of the consumer - in reference to your competition. Positioning is the SINGLE FACTOR that determines how you STAND OUT to your ideal clients.
SELLING - the act of making offers that will involve the exchange of money for value - whether it is a product or service. In order to "sell" something, you have to MAKE AN OFFER.
To find out what you need to do, you need to understand what you are doing NOW that is NOT getting you the results you want. Here are some questions to ask yourself:
√ What do you do in your business?
√ With the current marketing activities you are doing - are your clients there or are you just doing it because you think you're supposed to?
√ If they are there, why are they not interested in you? What is not working in your marketing strategy? What needs to change?
√ Are you trying to get "likes" or trying to get clients? (two VERY different things)
√ What can you do to change that?
√ Are you making offers? Why or why not?
√ What was the last thing you invited people to? Are you trying to help them make steps towards you? Or just throwing articles, images, and Facebook posts in their face?
The bottom line is, do you have a marketing strategy that works?
If what you are doing is not working for you - NOT bringing in the results you want - then it actually is NOT working for you.
The REAL problem - what I call, "The thing behind the thing", is that if you are new to having your own business, you may have learned what it takes to have an online business from other people online. And while what is being taught works for some people, the reason why it doesn’t work for many people is that it’s probably based on TACTICS - marketing vehicles like Facebook, Instagram, email, etc, instead of strategy - the solid plan that creates sales from your marketing.
With the growing influence of the Web, people have changed in the way they buy, communicate, and seek out information. This constantly changing world has caused confusion to the traditional way of life and business. To achieve entrepreneurial success in our lives and businesses, we need to adapt the way we think, operate and communicate.
Creating a solid strategic plan of action, is based on understanding what your highest, and greatest value is in your business.
Your highest and greatest value, is what I call your "genius". It's your unique purpose and positioning inside you and inside of your business.
Your "genius" - your highest and greatest value, that positions you for success and should be the foundation of your strategic marketing plan, is an understanding of your:
UNIQUNESS: Understanding of what makes different so you stand out from the crowd
CONSCIOUSNESS: Understanding the motivations of yourself and how it relates to the emotions and motivations of others
KNOWLEDGE - You have a wealth of information already inside of you so you have confidence to teach it to others, creating and seeding in your value and confidence with every life you touch
Understanding your genius is found in a combination of your expertise and life experience that, when positioned correctly in your business, empowers you, the business owner with your purpose and solves an urgent problem for a specific niche. You become the self-empowered leader for your tribe of clients What you sell creates massive value for the people you serve, giving you the trust in yourself as you move forward.
This is the job of your marketing strategy - to communicate that value. It's not just to "be visible". Your solid strategy must position you for the value that you are in such a way, that others recognize it and want to buy from you.
Here are some questions you can ask yourself to create your solid strategic marketing plan:
√ What is your goal? How do you define success?
√ What is your highest value that solves an urgent problem for your ideal clients?
√ How do you best communicate your value? What are you strengths? What do you appreciate about yourself?
√ What is your purpose? Your genius? (the combination of your expertise and life experience)
√ Who is your BBF Legacy Client - who are they? What problems do they have that you solve?
√ What words do they speak?
√ Where are they hanging out?
√ What are you going to teach them?
√ How are you different than your competitors? ARE You different?
√ What tactics should you be using that works for you and communicates best to them?
√ What systems do you need to implement to make sure you are consistently doing the work and then getting results?
√ What pivots do you need to make if something isn't working?
